Embedded Heating Cable Accessories

Cable Strapping and Zip-Ties

Snow melting applications require the electric heating cables to be affixed to a support structure using calculated spacing that is specifically designed for the area and medium being worked with. Depending on the application cross section, the heating cables may be secured to a pre-existing concrete/asphalt/mastic slab using TRM Cable Strapping, or may be secured to chaired 6” x 6” grids of wire mesh using TRM Zip-Ties.

Our team of experts can help you assess the existing site conditions and intended installation cross section to determine which of the affixing methods is best suited for your specific application.

Cable Guards (Angle Irons) and Silicone

Some snow melting installations require a heating cable to transition across a stress relief cut in a slab. In these locations, TRM recommends the installation of an angle iron cable guard, backfilled with silicone, to prevent the heating cable from shifting and sheering when slabs crack and shift. The cable guard (angle irons) structural strength minimizes the differential movement of the concrete across the control joint, while the silicone rubber conducts the heat away from the heating cable, preventing cable damage.

Our team of experts can help you assess the existing site conditions and intended installation to determine if extra cable protection is required for your application.

SR Heating Cable Accessories

Power Connection Kits

One TRM Power Connection Kit is required to complete one heating cable circuit; the included components terminate one power end for installation into a junction box, while the other end is capped with an end seal. This product is approved for use in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors within areas holding an ordinary designation.

Tee/Splice Connection Kits

One TRM SR heating cable Tee/Splice Connection Kit is required to complete either one splice connection, or one tee connection (branch circuit), complete with one end seal termination. This product must not be installed in a submerged environment terminated in a dry location, as per all local codes and by-laws. It is approved for use in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors within areas holding an ordinary designation.

End Seal Kits

One TRM End Seal is included in each of the TRM Power Connection Kits and the TRM Tee/Splice Kits. End seals are also available in single unit quantities if required for replacement. This product is approved for use in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors within areas holding an ordinary designation.

Roof and Gutter Accessories

Roof Clips

There are many types and styles of roofing materials currently being used in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, all of which have different parameters and installation requirements for properly affixing heating cables to the rooftop above the finished roofing material. For this reason, TRM offers several roof clip options to ensure we can resolve any issue:

Standard Roof Clips – Mount directly to the structure using fasteners or adhesives, depending on which is more suitable for the installation
Premium Roof Clips – Mount to the roof structure using alternative methods which do not penetrate the roofing materials
Downspout Hangers

Where heating cables transition in and out of downspouts, roof drains or scuppers, or when heating cables cross abrasive mechanical junctures on a roof, a downspout hanger must be used to provide mechanical strength and prevent damage to the heating cable caused by abrasion or shearing forces.

TRM Downspout Hangers can also be used as a means of spacing/securing the heating cables, as well as when transitioning around various roof features. They are available separately to ensure you only purchase what you need.

Our experienced team can help you assess the heat tracing path and recommend where downspout hangers may be needed to ensure your heat tracing installation lasts for years to come.

PIPE TRACING ACCESSORIES

Application Tapes

Heat tracing cables must be affixed to the pipe or vessel they are tracing using the correct tape, as the system’s performance can suffer when not installed correctly.

Glass Cloth Tape

Glass cloth tape comes in a 66’ long-roll and is used primarily to affix a heat tracing cable to a metal pipe by wrapping around the circumference of the pipe/cable assembly. The required amount of tape depends on the length and diameter of the pipe being traced.

Aluminum Tape

Aluminum tape comes in a 150’-long roll and is used when tracing plastic pipes and/or vessels. Aluminum tape is applied along the length of the pipe or vessel with the heating cable and a final run of aluminum tape placed over top of the assembly. It secures the cable and provides an effective path of heat transfer to the pipe or vessel being traced.

Caution Labels

Heat tracing caution labels are used to identify heat tracing cables that have been installed in areas with restricted visibility to ensure anyone working in and around the area is aware of the potential hazard that an electric heat tracing cable may present.

One heat traced caution label should be installed for every 10’ of pipe.

GFI TERMINATION KITS

One TRM GFI power connection kit is required to complete one heating cable circuit; the included components terminate one power end for installation into a junction box, while the other end is capped with an end seal. This product is approved for use in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors within areas holding an ordinary designation. This kit adds GFI protection directly into the circuit at the heating cable termination point, eliminating the need for expensive GFI breakers or receptacles.

HAZARDOUS LOCATION (HAZLOC) KITS AND ACCESSORIES

Specified heat tracing for areas that are designated as “hazardous” require the correct heating cable and accessories; both of which must be rated for the intended application and exposure. TRM is proud to offer a range of accessories designed to operate in these extreme environments, and hold the following approvals:

Power Connection with Junction Box

A robust, corrosion-resistant hinged enclosure, complete with a power end termination kit for the TRM SR Heating Cable

Low-Profile Splice Connection Kit

A low-profile splice kit designed to be installed with TRM SR Heating Cables, on the pipe under insulation and/or cladding

Low-Profile End Seal Kit

A low-profile end seal kit designed to be installed with TRM SR Heating Cables, on the pipe under insulation and/or cladding

Low-Profile Tee Connection Kit

A low-profile end seal kit designed to be installed with TRM SR Heating Cables, on the pipe under insulation and/or cladding

High-Profile Lighted End Kit

A high-profile end seal termination kit designed to be installed with TRM SR Heating Cables; the heating cable is installed on the pipe under insulation and/or cladding while the high visibility LED enclosure extends above the insulation and/or cladding to provide a visual indication of voltage/power reaching the end of the circuit.

Our experienced team can help you assess the specified projects intent and recommend the correct accessory materials to ensure the project is done right the first time.
